TV channels curate special programme line-ups for Independence Day
From shows on border visits, to movies with patriotic flavour, channels across genres are set to keep viewers occupied through the day

Television channels across genres have put together special Independence Day programming for the 73rd Independence Day.
While Zee Cinema will air the premiere of Akshay Kumar’s Kesari, Colors will telecast its Khatra Khatra Khatra team’s visit to the Attari border and BSF camp in Amritsar.
Here’s what else you can catch up on your TV sets on I-Day.
Colors’ Khatra Khatra Khatra team comprising of Bharti Singh, Harsh Limabachiyaa, Avika Gor, Aditya Narayan and Gaurav visited the Attari border and BSF camp in Amritsar to salute the BSF jawans. The visit attracted an audience of 35,000 people at the Indo-Pak border as the actors put out their best and posed specially curated challenges to BSF jawans and officials as well.
This Independence Day, Colors Infinity will be airing a show that resonates with the symbolism of each colour on the national flag. They have handpicked shows going with spirit of the day. The programming will include Whiskey Cavalier S1 for Saffron, God Friended Me S1 for White, and Shark Tank S10 for Green.
Colors Bangla has a special episode lined up for Nishir Daak in the fiction category while in the non-fiction genre team Adal Badal will celebrate Independence Day.
With Ye Jo Desh Hai Mera, the channel will bring together CRPF jawans and hasya kavis to celebrate the day. The channel will also do a special show - Ae Watan Tere Liye! with BSF jawans. News18 India will be broadcasting live Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address from the Red Fort. From Srinagar and New Delhi to Ahmedabad and Mumbai, the channel’s team of reporters will go on-ground and speak to the people about PM Modi’s speech and other issues including abrogation of Article 370, Teen Talaq, the Ayodhya temple dispute amongst others.
Nickelodeon will celebrate I-day with the best of Nicktoon Ninja Hattori. The channel has promised a binge-worthy line-up with ‘Jai Ho With Ninja Hattori’.
MTV Beats will celebrate azaadi with patriotic songs under the property ‘Freedom Beats’. On the eve of Independence Day, MTV BEATS will celebrate music in a different avatar, inviting dancers and choreographers to make their own music video on MTV Beats’ patriotic song ‘Khushnaseeb’. This will be aired across all social media handles.
MTV BEATS will celebrate Independent Music under its property - BEATS TOP 10. Hosted by singer Akasa, this episode will have a special guest in singer- song writer Arjun Kanungo and will feature 10 independent songs coupled with a tête-à-tête.
MTV Beats’ popular property Buddhu Banaya will be a comical splash to the celebrations. The in-house VJs will hit the streets to play ‘Independence Day’ themed pranks on the aam aadmi.
In Paanch Ka Punch, Akasa will interact with the young crowd in colleges, parks and streets, asking the next Gen 5 GK questions around India. Those not able to answer will get a punch.
Sony PIX will air a movie marathon beginning with Early Man, The Son of Big Foot, Pacific Rim: Uprising, Breaking In, Paddington, Truth or Dare and First Man.
9XM is set to present a smash-up by DJ AKS, featuring songs from URI, Dangal and Gold. There will be Phokat Ka Gyan, a listicle under Newsic featuring ‘Bade’ and ‘Chote’. The show will cover trivia like how India got its name or the meaning of ‘namaste’.
9X Jalwa will feature songs from movies like Lagan Lakshya, Raazi, Chak de India and URI. The animated ‘J’ character of 9X Jalwa will give out interesting trivia on the film or songs. This property will be named J-Ho! and will play across the day on 9X Jalwa.
ZEE Cinema, &Pictures
This Independence Day, Zee Cinema will air the World Television Premiere of Kesari on Thursday at 12 noon. & pictures will be premiering Uri: The Surgical strike at 3pm.
In other channels, AXN will air Brave, while Sony BBC Earth will celebrate Independence Day with its Desi Feel line-up with shows like Joanna Lumley’s India, Rick Stein’s India, Tuning to You, Last Man Standing, and the Kumbh Mela coverage.
