After deciding to take its controversial show ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ off air Sony Entertainment Television has followed suit with its popular non-fiction property ‘The Kapil Sharma Show.’  Both the channel and the ace comedian Kapil Sharma have taken a joint decision to take it off air for a month at least. An official spokesperson from the channel said, "Kapil has been feeling under the weather for some time now due to which we have mutually agreed to take a short break. However, once Kapil recovers completely, we will start shooting again. We value our relationship with Kapil and wish him a speedy recovery.”

This development comes shortly after the channel extended its contract with Sharma for a year in early August. But lately there have been reports of the comedian keeping unwell and hence being unable to supply fresh episodes. He has reportedly been in the news for cancelling shoots with Bollywood stars Shah Rukh Khan, Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Aishwarya Rai.

Sharma’s show started going through a rough patch after Sunil Grover quit following his spat with Sharma five months back. The BARC ratings reported a major slip in the ratings and the show further saw exit of its other team members Ali Asgar and Sugandha Mishra. Later on, comedians Raju Srivastava and Bharti Singh were introduced in the act to save the day. Rumour has it that script writer Raaj Shaandilyaa of ‘Welcome Back’ fame has been roped in to get back the show to its top game. Now with Sony Entertainment Television extending Sharma’s contract it will be interesting to see how the channel ups its ante for the show.

In a recent interview with exchange4media, Danish Khan, EVP and Business Head at Sony Entertainment Television (SET), had said that he is extremely proud of the show and was happy to extend the contract.

Currently the channel’s other comedy property ‘The Drama Company’ has replaced Sharma’s show in the 9pm slot while its repeats are being aired at 8pm. By the end of this month, reality dance show ‘Super Dancer’ will take over the 8pm time slot. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
