Regulatory approvals for premium factual entertainment channel received

Sony BBC Earth readies for launch

Sony Pictures Networks has received regulatory approvals for the launch of its much-awaited channel, Sony BBC Earth.

“We have received regulatory approvals for the launch of Sony BBC Earth, in both SD and HD. We are now gearing up for the launch of these channels and will announce a launch date soon,” it said in a statement.

The Sony BBC Earth channels will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

Earlier, Sony Pictures Networks India Chief Executive Officer NP Singh had said the company was planning to launch the channel in April, after getting the licenses. 

BBC Earth is a premium factual entertainment channel that is part of MSM-Worldwide Factual Media (MSMW). MSMW is a joint venture between Sony Pictures Networks India and BBC Worldwide. The two had entered a joint venture in 2015.

The new channel will showcase the work of leading factual film makers.

Sony Pictures Networks has been scouting a variety of content as it looks to broaden its horizons. The company has also been strengthening its digital platform, Sony Liv, with a slew of archival content and also, original content.
