Piyush Sharma, CEO - New Initiatives, India & APAC, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) has put in his papers. Sharma confirmed the development and went on to describe his stint at ZEEL: “The stint at Zee provided me the unique opportunity of shaping and growing new businesses. I am happy to have succeeded in building a profitable and large opportunity canvass across India and the emerging markets of Asia for the factual entertainment foray of Zee under the Living brand. Zee provided me a unique platform to transform myself and my career trajectory through the unmandated e-commerce foray.”

Sharma refused to share his next move. “My best is yet to come in my next assignment that I am so eagerly looking forward to but cannot disclose at this stage.”

He expressed his gratitude to Dr Subhash Chandra, Chairman of Essel Group and Zee Media and Rajya Sabha MP, for supporting his “start-up instincts” and providing him “unparalleled entrepreneurial freedom” to pursue his ideas.

Sharma was appointed by Zee Entertainment Enterprises Limited (ZEEL) as its CEO - New Initiatives, India and APAC in February 2015. He spearheaded the factual entertainment piece for Zee under the Living portfolio. He launched the first channel under the Living umbrella, Living Foodz, in September 2015, which is now present across India, Africa, the US, and APAC. He was responsible for launching brand-centric multi-platform businesses across various domains and geographies, including India and the emerging markets of Asia.

Prior to this position, Sharma served as CEO for the India operations of Burda International, a German MNC operating in 18 markets with more than 300 consumer magazine brands for 10 years from 2005 to 2015.

Sharma, an alumnus of the University of Cambridge, UK has been credited with creating successful case studies at Burda International while bringing the licensed editions of some of the world’s most powerful international media brands into the country.  He helped launch and successfully build, among others, brands such as Sports Illustrated, Travel + Leisure, Better Homes and Gardens, and Maxim.
