FCC Chairman Ajit Varadaraj Pai meets broadcasters, TRAI Chairman

In the closed-door meeting with broadcasters, Pai is said to have discussed growing pressure of social media & content democratisation

Ajit Varadaraj Pai, Chairman of US Federal Communications Commission (FCC), is in India to address the second edition of India Mobile Congress in Delhi.

On the sideline of the conference, Pai on Friday held a bi-lateral meeting with TRAI Chairman RS Sharma. Pai also held a closed door meeting with some broadcasters and representatives from Netflix and Amazon.

Sources informed exchange4media that in the meeting with broadcasters, discussions were held about the growing pressure of social media and the regulations needed to check it. Talks were also held on net neutrality and on ways to ensure that the process of democratisation of content is further strengthened.

Among those from the broadcasting industry who attended the one-hour meeting were ABP News Network COO Avinash Pandey; BAG Network Chairman and MD Anurradha Prasad; Writer-director Prashant Pandey; Kaleidoscope Entertainment MD Bobby Bedi and DEN Network MD and Chairman Sameer Manchanda.
