As ratings surge, Colors TV starts the new year on top

In the urban market, Star Plus and Sony Sab bagged second and third spots respectively on BARC India’s Week 3 ranking

Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) revealed that Colors TV -- backed by some key properties like Choti Sardarni, Naagin Bhagya Ka Zehrila Khel and Bigg Boss --  has maintained its number one spot on pay platforms and in the urban market. Since the start of 2020, Colors has occupied the top spots on the BARC chart, which bodes well for the channel's year ahead. 

As per the week 3 data, Colors is the number one Hindi GE channel with 497 GVMs and a market share of 20.6 per cent.  The channel dominates all-day primetime with 365 GVMs and ranks #1 among 15+ All Adults and all-day viewership of 15+ females.

The channel's reality TV offering Bigg Boss in its 13th season, and it is the number one non-fiction property of the Hindi GE category. Colors' supernatural fantasy thriller, which also happens to be highest-rating fiction show, Naagin launched its fourth season in week 50 of 2019. After garnering 9.6 million impressions, its inaugural episode was adjudged the "best launch" in Hindi GEC of the year. Colors' weekday offerings, Vidya, Chotti Sardaarni and Shakti, also dominate viewership in their respective slots.

 Dangal TV continued to lead free platforms and rural markets. In week 3, Dangal TV continued to lead the Hindi GEC (U+R) segment with 1243490 (000s) impressions followed by Colors TV on the second position with 728893 (000s) impressions. Star Plus is on the third spot with 645553 (000s) impressions. Zee TV and Sab TV bagged the fourth and fifth spot with 610485 (000s) and 585031 (000s) impressions respectively.  

Dangal’s Mahima Shanidev Ki remains the leading show in week 3 with 17198 (000s) impressions followed by other four shows on the same channel Baba Aiso Var Dhundo (16789) Dwarkadeesh Bhagwan Sri Krishna (15785) and Bandini (15202). Zee TV’s primetime show Kundali Bhagya bagged the fifth spot with 14164 (000s) impressions.

In the Hindi speaking market (HSM) (U+R) among the pay platforms, Colors continued to lead the top ten channels list. The channel registered 727835 (000s) weekly impressions followed Star Plus on the second slot with 644504 (000s) impressions and Zee TV stood on the third spot with 608849 (000s) impressions. Sony Sab and Sony Entertainment Television grabbed fourth and fifth spot with 583807 (000s) and 463381 (000s) respectively.a

In top five programmes category, Zee TV’s primetime shows Kundali Bhagya and Kumkum Bhagya bagged the first two slots with 14127 (000s) and 12432 (000s) impressions followed by Colors’ Naagin Bhagya Ka Zehrila Khel and Choti Sardarani on third and fourth spot with 11753(000s) and 10957 (000s) respectively. Star Plus’ longest-running show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai bags fifth spot with 9687 (000s) impressions.

In the urban market

In the urban market of week 3, Colors maintained its top slot with 519875 (000s) impressions followed by Star Plus on the second position with 432796 (000s) weekly impressions. Sony Sab and Zee bagged third and fourth spot with 417840 (000s) and 346828 (000s) impressions respectively. Sony Entertainment Television bagged the fifth spot with 339061 (000s) impressions.

In the top five programmes, ZeeTV’s Kundali Bhagya bagged the top slot with 8039 (000s) impressions followed by Colors two shows on the second and third slot with Choti Sardarni (7316) and Naagin Bhagya Ka Zehrila Khel (7184) impressions. Star Plus’Yeh Rishta Kya Khelata Hai stood at number four with 6985 (000s) impressions and Bigg Boss on Colors was at number five with 6949 (000s) weekly impressions.  

In the rural market

In the rural market, Dangal TV led the top ten channel list with 970375 (000s) impressions followed by Big Magic on the second position with 335154 (000s) impressions and Zee TV on the third spot with 263658 (000s) impressions. Star Plus and Colors baggs fourth and fifth spot with 212757 (000s) and 209017 (000s) impressions respectively.

In the top five programmes, all the slots were bagged by Dangal TV’s shows. Mahima Shanidev Ki remains number one show with 13969 (000s) impressions followed by Baba Aisa Var Dhundo on second with 13358 (000s), Dwarkadeesh Bhagwan Sri Krishna with 13140 (000s) impressions. Bandini and KItani Mohabbat Hai are in fourth and fifth spot with 12389 (000s) and 10564 (000s) impressions respectively.
