Close finishes attract more viewers to IPL
TAM data indicates relative improvement in IPL 5 ratings, with average match TVR for 46 matches at 3.40 as compared to 3.54 TVR for 47 matches in IPL 4
TAM viewership data released today indicates relative improvement in IPL 5 ratings, with average match TVR for 46 matches at 3.40 as compared to 3.54 TVR for 47 matches in IPL 4.
Though the fifth edition ratings are still lower than IPL 4, data indicates a dip in average match TVRs to be now only around 4.0 per cent as compared to a 9.0 per cent dip shown at the 26 match completion stage, as per data that was released by TAM on April 26.
Individual match data wasn’t available at the time of filing this report but ratings seem to have slightly recovered between the 26 and 47 match stage. The recovery in ratings could also be explained by the nail-biting finishes seen in some recent matches. An analysis carried by The Times of India on Saturday indicated IPL 5 to have beaten all previous editions when it comes to close encounters – matches won in the last over or won by six runs or less.
Cum reach, the total number of viewers watching matches seems to have a positive effect on ratings with around 15.15 crore viewers having tuned into IPL 5 till date as compared to 15.27 crore for IPL 4.
