Asianet, the satellite television company, is all set to rework the programming on its Asianet Global channel and transform it into a news-based channel that also caters to the entertainment needs of the `global Malayalee'.
Asianet is converting Global into a news channel, but will not get rid off all the current `global' programming on the channel. While the channel is eventually likely to be branded `Asianet News', it will continue to be called Asianet Global for the moment said the channel source.
As the first step in this direction, a one-hour `news hour' programme will be introduced on Asianet Global every evening from 9 to 10 pm. This programme will start in early November and is the first of its kind on Malayalam satellite television. Simultaneously, the 6.30 pm evening news now being telecast on the flagship Asianet channel will be shifted to the Global channel from November 3.
While the news-based content on the Global channel will be increased, the programming for the non-resident Keralite (NRK) population especially in `Gulf' will continue, but in more focused time slots.
