As people take to self-isolation and social distancing during the COVID-19 lockdown, consumption of OTT content has seen a tremendous surge. During this period, streaming giant Netflix has reportedly added 15.8 million new subscribers, doubling the amount analysts and the company itself had estimated.

Netflix had predicted an additional 7 million subscribers, while analyst estimated close to 8.47 million. The development highlights that Netflix and by extension, the OTT industry is one of the few industries that has benefitted from the global pandemic. Disney's new OTT platform, Disney+ exceeded 50 million subscribers in just five months.

Some of the shows that drew high viewership include 'Tiger King' an American true-crime documentary miniseries based on the life of zookeeper Joe Exotic, the Netflix hit series 'Stranger Things' and dating shows 'Love Is Blind' and 'Too Hot to Handle'.
