Venture capitalist Joshua Kushner and former Disney CEO Bob Iger are set to acquire the Los Angeles Lakers in a deal valuing the NBA franchise at $12.5 billion, media networks have reported.
During his tenure as Disney CEO, Iger had led ESPN and developed relationships with the NBA as Disney entered into multi-billion-dollar broadcasting agreements for NBA games.
Iger retired from Disney in March. He has previously taken a majority stake in Angel City FC, a National Women's Soccer League team.
The proposed Lakers acquisition comes weeks after Kushner became involved in a controversial private equity proposal concerning FIFA.
