Rajasthan Royals continued their unbeaten run in IPL 2026 with a six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 16 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on April 10. RCB posted a competitive 201 for 8 in 20 overs, but RR chased down the target of 202 comfortably in just 18 overs, finishing at 202 for 4 with 12 balls to spare.

The high-scoring contest was delayed by rain before the toss, but once play began it delivered plenty of drama and memorable moments that quickly took over social media.

Jofra Archer’s First-Ball Dismissal of Phil Salt

The match began with immediate impact, as Jofra Archer struck on the very first delivery. He bowled a bouncer that rose quickly, giving Salt no time to react. The ball hit the bat’s handle and ballooned for a simple catch to Dhruv Jurel behind the stumps.

It was the third time Salt has been dismissed on the first ball of an innings in IPL history.

Fans reacted, with comments like “first ball, first statement,” and “Archer doesn’t wait.” Others pointed to the pattern, writing “this is becoming a trend now,” while some joked, “powerplay ended before it began.”

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Explosive Innings Steals the Show

If the opening over set the tone, it was Vaibhav Suryavanshi who shaped the outcome.

When RR began their chase, Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 13 off 8 balls and the score was 20 for 1. That was the last time Rajasthan looked like they might be in trouble.

Sooryavanshi, who is just 15 years old, delivered an aggressive innings of 78 runs. He brought up his fifty in just 15 balls, equaling the fastest half-century of his IPL career, which he had set just days earlier against CSK.

He targeted every bowler. Josh Hazlewood, one of the most experienced T20 operators in world cricket, went for 18 runs in the over Sooryavanshi faced him. He hit eight fours and seven sixes in a 78-run innings off just 26 balls. By the time Hazlewood finally got him out (ball caught by Virat Kohli) Sooryavanshi had turned the match irreversibly in RR’s favor. At the end of the powerplay, RR were 97 for 1. The highest powerplay score by any team in IPL 2026.

Alongside him, Dhruv Jurel played a crucial supporting role, finishing unbeaten on 81 off 43 deliveries, helping close out the chase with composure.

The social media response was immediate. Shashi Tharoor wrote, “Whenever he takes strike, the world outside simply ceases to exist: I find myself dropping everything just to catch every delivery.”

Users also couldn’t keep calm after watching his performance. One user wrote, “Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is a serious talent for real.” Another commented, “Fearless hitting, clean striking, Suryawanshi looks like a serious T20 asset going forward.”

A user said, “I'm sure he'll break Gayle's record very soon.”

Virat Kohli’s boundary burst

It wasn’t just Rajasthan players driving the conversation. Virat Kohli also had his moment during the first innings.

Kohli looked in aggressive touch early on, scoring a quick 32 off 16 balls, finding boundaries consistently and taking on both pace and spin. A sequence of shots saw him hit multiple consecutive fours, against bowlers like Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger.

However, the momentum was cut short by Ravi Bishnoi, who produced a standout moment of his own. Introduced in the middle overs, Bishnoi bowled Kohli with a delivery that beat him for pace and line, knocking over the stumps and bringing an abrupt end to the innings.

Fans reacted strongly to the sequence, with comments like “Kohli in full flow,” and “that timing is effortless.” Others wrote, “four after four, vintage stuff, while some noted, “even in a loss, he gave a moment.”

RR admin’s post adds to the buzz

Off the field, Rajasthan Royals’ social media activity also became part of the conversation.

During the rain delay before the toss, RR’s social media team kept fans entertained with a fun interactive game: fans had to name a jersey number and the admin would reply with the player associated with it.

When one user commented “18” which is Virat Kohli’s iconic number for RCB, the RR admin cleverly replied with “Smriti Mandhana” instead. The cheeky response, playing on the fact that both Kohli and Mandhana wear the No. 18 jersey. The reply got over a million views, with some users interpreting it as a playful move, while others debated whether it was a subtle dig at Virat Kohli.

Rajasthan Royals have now won all four of their IPL 2026 matches and lead the points table with eight points. RCB absorbed their first defeat of the season but remained competitive. For RR, the question is no longer whether they can keep winning, it is whether Sooryavanshi's scoring rate is sustainable over a full season, and whether teams will eventually find a way to contain him. So far this season, they have not.
