IPL 2026 squads reflect a clear divide between experience and youth, with franchises adopting contrasting strategies while building their teams for the season, according to a report titled 'ICYMI: IPL 2026 Squads — A Tale of Two Generations'.

The analysis highlights that some teams have leaned on seasoned players, while others are focusing on young talent and long-term potential. Delhi Capitals emerge as the oldest squad this season with an average age of 29.3, closely followed by Mumbai Indians at 29.1. Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans sit at 28.9, indicating a balance between youth and experience.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (28.6), Chennai Super Kings (28.1), and Punjab Kings (28.0) fall in the middle range, while Lucknow Super Giants (27.5), Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals (both 27.0) are among the youngest squads.

The report also points to significant generational gaps within teams. Chennai Super Kings have the widest age difference, with MS Dhoni (44.7) and Ayush Mhatre (18.7)- a gap of 26 years. Similar gaps are seen in Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals, underlining the mix of veterans and emerging players across franchises.

On the individual front, Rajasthan Royals’ Vaibhav Suryavanshi, aged just 15, is the youngest player in IPL 2026, while several senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, Ravindra Jadeja, and Ishant Sharma continue to play key roles despite being in their late 30s. The presence of young players under 21 alongside experienced names highlights the league’s evolving nature.

IPL 2026 showcases a blend of legacy and future, with teams balancing immediate performance goals and long-term planning. The season is expected to be shaped not just by performance on the field, but also by how effectively teams manage this generational transition.
