Aaj Tak has bagged the Best News Channel Award at the First Indian Television Academy Awards held in Mumbai on 30th November 2001.

A TV Awards' Gala was held at Mumbai, to confer honour and recognition on those, who have done distinguished work in the Television field. The ceremony was presided over by the Information & Broadcasting Minister, Ms Sushma Swaraj.
Commenting on this occasion G Krishnan, CEO Aaj Tak said, “We are proud to have been conferred with the award. This award is the result of teamwork, and is a true reflection of the appreciation that we have received from the viewers and the advertising fraternity. I thank the jury members for choosing Aaj Tak as the Best News Channel”.
As per the latest TRP ratings, Aaj Tak is leading amongst the various news channels with a channel-share of 53% and a connectivity of more than 24 million households.
This award comes in a time when the channel is just about to celebrate its first anniversary. Aaj Tak was launched as a channel on 31st December 2000.
The Indian Television Academy seeks to look after the welfare of the Television Industry in India. The Academy is seized of the perception that Television is capable of doing tremendous things. However, it needs to be streamlined and that has become the prime causative factor of setting up the Indian Television Academy.
The Indian Television Academy Governing Council consists of twelve distinguished luminaries such as Javed Akhtar, Mahesh Bhatt, Manmohan Shetty, Neena Gupta, Rajat Sharma, Ravi Chopra, Shashi Ranjan, Shatrughan Sinha, Shekhar Suman, Siddharth Kak and Tavleen Singh, headed Ms. Anu Ranjan.
