Veteran journalist and former Editor of The Hindu BusinessLine, Karunakara Kurup, popularly known as NK Kurup, passed away in Kerala on 26 September 2026. He was 72.
Kurup began his journalism career with The Economic Times and The Financial Express in their Mumbai bureaux before joining the Hindu group. He went on to build a distinguished career in business journalism and served as Editor of BusinessLine before retiring in 2014.
Known for his editorial judgement and integrity, Kurup also mentored several younger journalists during his career. Colleagues and friends remember him for his warmth, caring nature and cheerful spirit.
Kurup is survived by his wife, Sukhada Kurup, and son Sarat Kurup and daughter-in-law Urvashi Negi. His last rites were held on 27 September at 11.30 am.
