Vaidya Balendu Prakash, a Padma Shri awardee and veteran Ayurveda practitioner, died on 7 August 2026 at the age of 67. According to reports, he passed away following a heart attack.
Popularly known as Vaidyaji, he was the founder of Paadav, a speciality Ayurvedic hospital in Dehradun. He was known for developing evidence-based Ayurvedic treatment protocols, with a particular focus on cancer and pancreatic disorders.
Prakash advocated combining scientific research with traditional Ayurvedic practices and was also known for his work in Rasa Shastra, which involves the use of minerals and metals in Ayurveda.
Prakash was conferred the Padma Shri in 1999. He received several other awards and honours during his career for his work in advancing research-based Ayurveda.
His last rites were held on 8 August at his family’s native place in Uttar Pradesh.
