Tehelka bags IPI Award for 'Excellence in Journalism'

Tehelka has won the IPI Award for ‘Excellence in Journalism’, awarded by the India Chapter of the International Press Institute. Tehelka had fearlessly unearthed the story of brutal execution of a youth by security forces in Manipur, for which it was conferred this recognition.

Speaking to exchange4media, Shoma Chaudhury, Managing Editor, Tehelka, said, “Of course, it’s an honour to get the IPI Award, which is one of the most prestigious and respected awards in the industry. It is an acknowledgement of the work that Tehelka has been doing over the past several years. Law Minister Veerappa Moily, who was present at the function, acknowledged the work done by Tehelka, once considered Bohemian in its kind of journalism. National media has often neglected the North-East, but with our coverage of the execution of a youth by security forces in Manipur has definitely created an impact in the area. If reports are to be believed, false encounters in Manipur have gone down ever since.”

In wake of the several invaluable and fearless reports that that Tehelka has come out with over the years, it has truly established itself as a credible name in the industry. The IPI Award points to the same.
