Ram Kamal's next magnum opus Binodiini is the biggest from Bengal

Bollywood's 'Sanak' girl Rukmini Maitra, who made her debut with action star Vidyut Jammwal, off-late has been ruling the roost at Bengal box-office with her blockbuster performance in Boomerang and Tekka. Now, Rukmini will be seen playing the title role in National Award winning filmmaker Ram.Kamal Mukherjee's biopic Binodiini Ekti Natir Upakhyan Rahul Bose plays her love interest in the film.

 "I always wanted to tell the fascinating story of Binodini Dasi for Bengali audiences. I had to struggle for almost two years to get the kind of budget I was expecting to mount a musical film like this. The only person who stood beside by my faith like a Rock of Gibraltar was Rukmini Maitra. I am elated that Rukmini is my Binodini," says acclaimed National Award winner Bollywood filmmaker Ram Kamal Mukherjee. Rukmini has given her heart and soul silently on this film for past two years. From practising Indian classical dance to reading various books depicting the social status of women in that era. "It's a dream come true for me. Since the time Ram Kamal mentioned that he wants to make Binodiini, I knew he would have a different take on the subject. Without questioning him even once, I trusted him blindly" says Rukmini Maitra. She also mentioned that while playing the most important part of the character Sri Chaitnya Mahaprabhu on stage she could felt the magic within her and, she was almost in a trance while playing the character and after the take she was in no position to utter a word but tears were rolling down through her cheeks. 

 The teaser created huge buzz amongst cine lovers, and it was trending on Diwali day. Produced under the banner of Dev Entertainment Ventures and Pramod Films in association with Assorted Motion Pictures, this film depicts the life of Bengal's theatre queen Binodini Dasi.

The visuals have set a high benchmark. Though this has been marketed as a regional cinema, the flair and treatment of every scene seems like a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film. Opulent sets by Tanmay Chakraborty, gorgeous costumes by Suchishmita Dasgupta and top-notch cinematography by Soumik Halder, makes it look stunning.

Binodiini Ekti Natir Upakhyan will be released nationwide on January 23rd January 2025. The film also stars legends like Kaushik Ganguly as Girish Chandra, Om Sahani as Kumar, CHandreyee Ghosh as Gangabai, and Rahul Bose plays her love interest Ranga Babu. Internationally acclaimed music duo from Bengal Sourendro-Soumyojit makes their debut in cinema composition with Binodiini Ekti Natir Upakhyan.
