Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is making a bold move to transform digital advertising by aiming to fully automate ad creation and targeting using artificial intelligence by the end of 2026, according to a Reuters report citing the Wall Street Journal. This initiative is set to streamline and personalize the ad process for brands and businesses of all sizes, leveraging the latest advancements in AI.
Under this new system, advertisers will only need to submit a product image and specify a budget. Meta’s AI will then generate the entire ad—including images, videos, and text—while also identifying the most suitable audiences on Instagram and Facebook.
Furthermore, the AI will provide recommendations on how to allocate the budget for optimal campaign performance. This automation is expected to make ad creation much more accessible, particularly for small and midsized businesses that may not have dedicated marketing teams or large budgets.
Meta’s move into AI-driven ad creation builds on existing tools such as Advantage+ campaigns, which already allow advertisers to tweak existing ads, generate variations, and optimize targeting. However, the upcoming system will take automation a step further, enabling brands to build entire campaigns from scratch using only basic inputs.
The AI will also personalize ads in real time, ensuring that different versions of the same ad are shown to users based on factors such as geolocation and user behavior.
CEO Mark Zuckerberg has emphasized the importance of positioning Meta at the forefront of the AI revolution, with a focus on delivering measurable results at scale for advertisers. To support these capabilities, Meta is investing heavily in AI infrastructure, including data centers and custom AI chips.
With over 3.43 billion unique active users across its platforms, Meta’s AI-driven tools are expected to make advertising more effective and personalized than ever before. However, some major brands remain cautious, expressing concerns about brand safety, creative control, and the quality of AI-generated content.
Meta’s initiative comes as social media rivals like Snap, Pinterest, and Reddit are also ramping up investments in AI and machine learning to attract advertisers in an increasingly competitive digital ad market. Meanwhile, tech giants such as Google and OpenAI are rolling out their own AI tools for video and image generation, though widespread adoption in advertising is still uncertain due to lingering concerns among marketers.
