OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has revealed that ChatGPT now has more than 800 million weekly active users. The announcement came during OpenAI’s Dev Day keynote, where Altman said that over 4 million developers are actively building with the company’s technology and that the API now handles more than six billion tokens every minute.
This growth marks a sharp rise from 500 million weekly users in March and 700 million in August, showing how rapidly ChatGPT is expanding beyond individual users to businesses, institutions, and governments. Altman also introduced new tools that let developers create custom apps and intelligent agents directly inside ChatGPT, enabling more adaptive and personalized user experiences.
Launched in November 2022, ChatGPT has become one of the fastest-growing digital products ever, driving OpenAI’s ascent to a $500 billion valuation after a recent private stock sale.
