STAR, a wholly owned subsidiary of News Corporation and one of Asia’s leading media and entertainment companies, on Friday, September 25, 2009 announced the launch of four new South Asian channels on Comcast’s Chicago area cable platform. The channels – Star Plus, Star One, Star News, and Star Gold – were launched on September 24, 2009 with an aim to create a robust and desirable Hindi entertainment package.
Sachin Mohite has been appointed as Programming Head at Miditech Mumbai. He will be reporting to Manisha Tripathi, President, Miditech Pvt Ltd and will specifically drive the development and production of fiction programming for Miditech’s customers in Hindi and in Marathi, based out of Mumbai. Mohite is an accomplished professional in the media industry and has been involved with significant projects in the media and entertainment sector. He returns to Miditech and brings with him 12 years of experience in television, from conceiving and developing ideas to complete production and post production. Mohite most recently served as Creative Director, Real, and prior to that, he was with Big TV, Reliance Group, heading their regional and national production house.
Home appliances and consumer electronics company Haier has appointed Eric Braganza as President, Haier Appliances India. In his new role as the overall head of India operations, Braganza will oversee sales and marketing, manufacturing and all support functions. Prior to joining Haier, Braganza had held senior management positions like COO of Electrolux Hyundai Division; Director – Exports, Director - Sales and Marketing at Videocon Industries Ltd. With over 32 years of professional experience, Braganza brings with him vast knowledge and expertise in the field of consumer durables. Meanwhile, current Whole Time Director & COO of Haier Appliances India, Pranay Dhabhai, has decided to move on to start a new venture. Commenting on his decision, Dhabhai said, “It has been a memorable experience for me to be a part of Haier’s India journey and I am leaving the company as a much more enriched professional.”
With the intention to establish an entity to house all its globally aligned businesses, Lintas Media Group has launched a third media service brand – Karishma Initiative. KI is a wholly owned IPG company in India, and has begun operations with seven clients including a large international telecom company. The near future would see N P Sathyamurthy head the agency as its CEO.
“The future should also see opening up of more channels in Phase III. With the coming of more and more licenses, we are expecting a lot of new players to come on board. The expected regulatory reforms that are likely to improve profitability and stimulate foreign investments should also give the industry a much needed fillip. News in the coming times will be seen as stream of revenue,” says Neeraj Chaturvedi, National Marketing & Promotions Head, Fever FM.

The three-day Publish Asia 2009 concluded in Chennal on September 25. Day three saw Henrik Palsson, VP and Head of Consumer Lab, Ericsson, address the gathering. His talk focused on thinking about consumers as networks and communities. He said that consumers were willing to pay depending on content, applications and habitats, and as long as it was fair deal.
Winners of Ad Club Bombay’s Young Achievers Awards 2009 were declared at a ceremony in Mumbai on September 25. Interestingly, named as Pappu Awards, the annual awards have been instituted to encourage the young talent in the advertising and marketing communications industry.
