Advertising veteran Prahlad Kakar remembered his longtime friend and creative genius Piyush Pandey in a deeply personal note.
“Piyush Panday, my friend, guide, and partner in laughing at ourselves and the world, passed away today. But the legend and his legacy live on in the hundreds of people whose lives he touched and shaped indelibly — from young trainees to peers, colleagues, and even clients whose fortunes he changed,” he said.
Piyush’s legacy will forever shine for transforming an industry that once thought and spoke in English into one that dreamed, expressed, and created in Hindi and the many languages of India.
He stood firm and wove brilliance through his native language. That’s not to say his command of English was any less impressive — a St. Stephen’s College, Delhi graduate, he could craft words in English with equal finesse, said Kakar.
Piyush often said that his true schooling came not from books but from playing Ranji Trophy cricket for Rajasthan and journeying across the country in third-class unreserved coaches, experiencing the heart of India up close.
“I will miss you Piyush, for your irreverence, your humour, your raucous laughter and the balls to stand up and fight for your work, and for your juniors! May you find many roads in your journey my kindred spirit,” concluded Kakar.
