Changes at Mindshare: Ravi Rao to lead India, as R Gowthaman heads to APAC role

R Gowthaman, Leader, Mindshare South Asia, is headed to Singapore to assume a client leading role from the region. Ravi Rao, Leader, Team Unilever South Asia, will step into G’Man’s shoes. The changes are effective January 1, 2012.

Changes at Mindshare: Ravi Rao to lead India, as R Gowthaman heads to APAC role

After months of speculation on the subject, Mindshare APAC has finally formalised the changes in its senior management. R Gowthaman, aka G’Man, Leader, Mindshare South Asia is set to assume a larger responsibility in the region. In a newly created role, G’Man will be Chief Client Officer for the Asia Pacific region. In his new role, he continues to work closely with Ashutosh Srivastava, Leader, Mindshare APAC.

G’Man will move to Singapore to take on this new role, which is effective from January 1, 2012.

In the meanwhile, Ravi Rao, Leader, Team Unilever South Asia, has been elevated to be Leader, Mindshare South Asia. This will also be effective from January 1, 2012.

Mindshare officials have confirmed the development to exchange4media.

Commenting on Gowthaman’s appointment, Ashutosh Srivastava, CEO Mindshare APAC, said, “With the fusion of technology with media and the accompanying deluge of data, marketers are seeing more specialist talent and agencies involved in their business than ever before. Under G’Man’s charge, Mindshare India had become a great example of donning the new structure that Mindshare had created for itself in 2008. G’Man had brought digital at the centre of Mindshare’s offering and was instrumental in creating a bouquet of services for its clients. Mindshare India had recorded significant year on year growth under G’Man’s watch. Most senior members of the industry view his move to the region as a loss to the Indian media agency fraternity.

Rao had joined Mindshare in 2009, prior to which he was with Omnicom Media Group in the Middle East. In the last three years, he has grown to become a force to reckon with both in the GroupM structure and in the Indian media business.
