ASAP issues post-lockdown filming guidelines for commercial film production in India

An extensive list of recommendations by the body includes various social distancing measures to be implemented in the workplace

The Association of Advertising Producers (ASAP) has put together post-lockdown filming guidelines for commercial film production in India. The body had earlier unanimously decided to cancel all shoots from 19th to the 31st of March to curb the spread of coronavirus. “Safety is our main priority. So during the lockdown, the ASAP EC decided to put together a guideline for the new ways of working,” Cyrus Pagdiwala, Executive Producer, Corcoise Films & Honorary General Secretary, ASAP shared with exchange4media.

He said that the new norms will require people to plan shoots differently. “We will have to work with a smaller crew and provide live streaming facilities for the key crew wherever possible. We will have to ensure that the crew health is monitored continuously by a health professional on set, maintain social and personal distancing on sets, locations and post-production facilities, define new hygiene standards for the catering and craft service. It is all there in the ASAP Guidelines. We hope our members will follow it in letter and spirit,” Pagdiwala added.

Pagdiwala also revealed that the body has written to the Chief Minister requesting resumption of the shoots at the earliest.

ASAP has laid down a list of extensive measures to be adopted for shoots. Pagdiwala said that the body had to take into account the practicalities of shooting in India, the challenges of managing the crew and the hygiene realities that exist in our country to roll out these guidelines. They include general practises like encouraging a work-from-home strategy where possible, for freelancers and production staff, on entering the workplace all personnel to be screened for symptoms of Covid-19, social distancing measures to be implemented in the workplace. Moreover, it notes that 6-feet distance between colleagues should be maintained, masks at all times and preferably gloves too should be used.

It advises that all work environments must have hand sanitizers and handwashing facilities with soap while offices are encouraged to install sensor-based sanitizers to ensure handsfree dispensing and manually operated dispensers must be kept handy at all times. Furthermore, it suggests that workplaces should have COVID-19 risk assessments and plans in place, leave of absence must be insisted if anyone has symptoms of illness even if it is regular influenza or cough and safe transport of all employees, freelance or otherwise, must be provided.

ASAP represents 75 producer members responsible for 90 per cent of the advertising work in India and engages with various stakeholders like advertisers, agencies, creative professionals, etc. to promote the interests of the Advertising Film Production industry in India.
