IPRCC Awards 2011: Winners Speak
The PR and corporate communication industry got together to applaud the achievements of their own at the first ever Indian PR and Corporate Communication Awards (IPRCCA) 2011. Winners share their experiences and reactions…
The public relations and corporate communication industry got together to applaud the achievements of their own at the first ever Indian PR and Corporate Communication Awards (IPRCCA) 2011. The Awards were presented by CVB News Service, while Ad Factors PR is the co-sponsor. Eikona is the measurement partner, while insights have been provided by Penn Schoen Berland. Academic partner was ISB&M School of Communication.
Dr Pragnya Ram was conferred the Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural IPRCC Awards 2011. Hanmer MSL’s Sunil Gautam was declared PR Professional of the Year, Roma Balwani of Mahindra was adjudged Corporate Communication Professional of the Year. PR Agency of the Year was Blue Lotus PR.
Best Use of Public Relations by Private Sector Entity – Agency
Hanmer MSL India won the Award for Best Use of Public Relations by Private Sector Entity – Agency for the campaign: Embassy of France (Bonjour India). Reacting to the win, Jaideep Shergill, CEO, Hanmer MSL India, said, “The Award means a lot because a lot of people put in their hard work to make this happen. I want to thank my team, particularly in the Delhi office and also the rest of Hanmer MSL for making it happen.”
He further said, “I think it’s a great opportunity and it motivates people. It’s a recognition. When an agency wins any award it motivates people for a long time to come so, I am hoping after this a lot of younger people in the organization will do better work and enter in more awards.”
On whether he was expecting this win Shergill said, “We always hope we win. Sometime you do, sometimes you don’t.” Speaking further he said that the IPRCC Awards would definitely help take the industry forward. “There are many awards internationally, but in India there are very few for PR industry and IPRCCA is one of them. It is a good start in recognizing successful campaigns, PR agencies, corporate communications campaigns and corporate in general. I think it is a great opportunity for the professionals in the coming years,” he added.
Young Achievers Award
Emami Group’s Mamta Kalra Juneja, who won the Young Achievers Award, said, “It is great to get it, especially at this age and early in my career. A very big thank you to Emami Group of Companies, the reason why I am here today for the work I have done or them and it has been recognized. It feels great! Thank you, exchange4media and special thanks to the jury.”
She further said that the Award was an encouragement for the work she had been doing for the past 4-5 years and would help her in effective planning too. She added that she was not expecting to win “because Emami Group had nominated itself in 2-3 categories and this one was least expected”.
“The Award will definitely help people like us, who are not from Mumbai or Delhi, and places like Kolkata where there are hardly any PR agencies and people really don’t know what corporate communications and PR is,” Juneja added.
Best Use of Corporate Communications in an Organisation
Kotak Mahindra Group won the Award for Best Use of Corporate Communications in an Organisation. Speaking on the win, Sonal Shah, Associate VP, Group Marketing, Kotak, said, “This Award means a lot, firstly, because it is first-of-its-kind award in the industry, and secondly, getting it for Kotak Mahindra Bank corporate communications for digital is amazing as most corporate communications is about mailers and speaking to employees, but we built a social network. We are very happy that the jury recognised our work in the digital sphere.”
He believed that the win would go a long way in helping formulate future strategies. “I am in the process of re-building the activity now and this award like a huge testimony for the faith that I have in the project. It will definitely help me internally too.”
He further said, “I think awards of these kind will really help because ours is an industry which does not cater to the public domain as marketing is, or for that matter any other industry is. It is important to acknowledge the contribution made by the companies and agencies. It will give a huge confidence to the people who want to take up corporate communications and PR as professions. Your work is acknowledged and nothing can be better than that.”
He also said that he was not expecting to win “as we didn’t know how many nominations there were for this, but we were hoping to win”.
Best Use of Public Relations by Private Sector Entity – Corporate
Shobha Developers won the award for Best Use of Public Relations by Private Sector Entity – Corporate. Collecting the Award on behalf of the company, Jagdish Nangineni, Regional Head - NCR, Sobha Developers, said, “We are a niche player in South India that too into real estate, and it is very heartening to know that we have been recognised on a national level. Kudos to our corporate communications team. It will only help us to strive harder.”
He further said, “It will definitely help us streamline the whole PR activity in the company in an integrated manner. Considering we have multiple divisions right now within the company and we are also focusing on more geographies, so in integrated fashion we will be able to do much better job.”
Speaking on the IPRCCAwards, Nangineni said, “It gives a very good platform for the industry and helps it to recognise the importance of PR and also benchmark the agencies and other entities involved in the whole industry. So, it will definitely help the PR industry and also, the clients of the PR.”
“We are a regional player and slowing emerging nationally. This was completely unexpected for us,” he added.
