He has always been everyone’s man Friday: Comms fraternity remembers Bhaskar Majumdar

Some people leave behind professional legacies. Others leave behind something more personal — memories of conversations, help offered without hesitation, lessons shared and moments of kindness that stay with people.

For the communications fraternity, Bhaskar Majumdar was one such person.

As news of his passing emerged, tributes from across the PR and corporate communications community have remembered him not just as an industry veteran, but as a friend, colleague, mentor and someone who was always willing to help.

Ranjini Chalam, Head - Corporate Communications and CSR, Indus Towers Limited, describes him as someone who played several roles in the lives of those around him.

“Bhaskar taught each of us a lot. A friend, a colleague, an elder brother. He has always been everyone's man Friday and has always been there for all of us. Bhaskar's teaching will always remain with me. To me, he will be there forever.”

For Sonal Singh, Head of Communications, Jindal Stainless, it was his willingness to help that stood out most.

“I was introduced to Bhaskar da several years ago, and have remained in touch with him ever since. And though we met regularly at events, we didn't connect on a regular basis. What stood about him, however, was his willingness to help. If I needed a contact, a reference, a suggestion - he responded without fail. I will remember him as the smiling, helpful, easy-going person I always found him to be. May god bless his soul, and may his friends and family find the strength to bear his loss.”

That accessibility also shaped how younger professionals and peers experienced him. For Prerna Dalakoti, Account Director, PR Professionals, he stood out for the energy and enthusiasm he brought to the profession.

“For me, Bhaskar Sir was one of the most active, lively and positive seniors in the PR industry. I had always looked up to him as someone who was so energetic, always on his toes, actively involved in all the major PR forums, and, above all, incredibly giving. His energy was truly infectious. He was someone who was deeply loved and admired by the entire PR fraternity, across both the corporate and agency sides. His warmth, generosity and enthusiasm will always be remembered.”

‘His sensitivity, care, curiosity and love for human kind’

Among the tributes, Shariff D Ragnekar's recollection speaks to another side of Bhaskar - his willingness to listen and learn.

Ragnekar recalls a conversation, stating, “I recall Bhaskar reaching out to me to understand what it is to be gay, what does LGBTQIA+ mean. The beauty in his approach was his gentleness and how he wanted to learn about my life and the lives of people like me. In fact, he was so keen to educate others even though this wasn’t his job or role. This is what defined Bhaskar: his sensitivity, care, curiosity and love for human kind. This is what I saw in him even as a professional, never antagonistic, always a good listener, trying to see every moment as a learning.

I treasure this about him and will never forget it.”

The tribute captures a quality that several of his peers remember: an ability to engage with people with openness, without making every interaction about work.

‘What I will remember most is his kindness’

For Firdosh Khan, Independent Consultant, that personal quality became especially meaningful during a difficult period.

Khan had worked closely with Bhaskar at Adfactors PR, where their shared Bengali roots also created a special bond.

“We shared countless conversations and memories. What I will remember most is his kindness. During a difficult time when my mother was undergoing surgery, he stood by me without a second thought. His passing is very difficult to accept, and I will personally miss him a lot. Rest in peace, Bhaskar Sir.”

Across these tributes, a consistent picture tributes him as someone who was active, lively, positive, incredibly giving, smiling, helpful and easy-going, but also deeply sensitive and curious about people.

His colleagues remember the professional lessons he shared, the industry connections he helped build, the conversations he made time for and, perhaps most importantly, the moments when he simply stood by people.

A mentor. A colleague. An elder brother. A friend. A senior who was always willing to help.

The communications fraternity will remember him through these many relationships and through the lessons, conversations and acts of generosity that continue to stay with the people whose lives he touched.
