  • Umesh Bopche has left his position as CEO of Experience Commerce, Cheil SWA's digital marketing arm, following the earlier departure of Jitender Dabas from Cheil X in February 2026, raising concerns about leadership stability within the agency group.
  • Bopche's exit marks a significant transition for Experience Commerce, which has been integral to Cheil India's digital marketing capabilities, although no official announcement regarding his next role has been made.
  • With over 20 years of experience in media and digital sectors, Bopche has worked with major brands like Amazon, Hindustan Unilever, and Tata Motors, contributing to his reputation in driving business growth and client retention.
  • The recent leadership changes at Cheil SWA suggest potential strategic realignments, prompting industry observers to focus on the agency's succession plans and its ability to maintain competitive momentum in the evolving digital marketing landscape.

In a move that signals continued leadership churn at Cheil SWA, Umesh Bopche has exited his role as Chief Executive Officer of Experience Commerce, the network’s digital and experience-led marketing arm.

His departure comes just months after the exit of Jitender Dabas, CEO of Cheil X, in February 2026, raising fresh questions around stability at the senior leadership level within the agency group.

Bopche’s exit underscores a period of transition for the agency group as it navigates structural shifts in its leadership across business units, multiple sources have confirmed the development to e4m.

While there has been no official announcement on his next move, industry executives indicate that his departure marks a significant change for Experience Commerce, which has been a key pillar of Cheil India’s digital and integrated marketing capabilities.

In January 2026, Cheil Worldwide appointed marketing veteran Sungkyoon Kim as President and Chief Executive Officer of Cheil South West Asia (SWA), marking a key leadership transition at the Samsung-backed advertising and marketing network’s regional operations.

Experience Commerce declined to comment on the development.

A seasoned leader across media and digital

Bopche brought over 20 years of experience across media, digital, content, technology, and internet businesses. Over the course of his career, he built a reputation for driving business growth, strengthening client retention, and building high-performance teams.

Prior to his stint at Experience Commerce, he held leadership roles at Prime Focus Group, Times of India Group, and Times Internet. His exposure to both traditional media and new-age digital ecosystems positioned him as a key figure in navigating the convergence of content, technology, and marketing.

Diverse client portfolio

During his career, Bopche worked across a broad spectrum of industries, partnering with leading brands such as Amazon, Hindustan Unilever, ICICI Bank, Dabur, and Tata Motors.

His portfolio also includes work with OPPO, Xiaomi, ITC, Procter & Gamble, L’Oréal, Myntra, Marico, Big Bazaar, and several others, reflecting a deep understanding of consumer-facing sectors and evolving brand communication strategies.

Leadership churn raises questions

Bopche’s exit comes on the heels of the departure of Jitender Dabas from Cheil X earlier this year, signalling a broader churn at the senior leadership level within Cheil SWA. Multiple exits in quick succession often point to strategic realignments or internal restructuring.

Industry observers note that Experience Commerce has been central to Cheil SWA's ambitions in digital transformation and customer experience-led marketing. With Bopche’s exit, attention will now turn to the company’s succession plans and how it intends to maintain momentum in a highly competitive digital agency landscape.

As the advertising industry continues to evolve rapidly—with increasing emphasis on data, performance marketing, and integrated solutions—leadership stability remains a key factor for agencies looking to scale sustainably. For Cheil SWA, the coming months could prove crucial in defining its next phase of growth.
