Sunit Tandon's tenure as Director of the India Habitat Centre (IHC) has ended, he served as its Director for seven years. He has been succeeded by senior journalist and academic Prof. K.G. Suresh.
Tandon’s stint at IHC turning point for IHC has overseen years of vibrant programming and institutional growth. Widely recognized for his decades-long contribution to Indian media, Tandon served as a distinguished news anchor on Doordarshan and Lok Sabha TV for over three decades, beginning in the late 1980s.
Beyond broadcasting, he has held influential leadership positions including Director General of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Chief Executive of Lok Sabha Television, Festival Director of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI, Goa), and General Manager of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC).
A passionate patron of the arts, Tandon is also President of the Delhi Music Society and has been an active figure in India’s theatre community as a director, actor, and sound designer. He has directed more than 25 plays and acted in nearly 200, in addition to writing reviews on music, books, and performance art.
Stepping into his shoes will be Prof. K.G. Suresh, a prominent media educator and journalist with a strong academic and editorial background. Prof. Suresh previously served as Director General of IIMC and as Vice Chancellor of the Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism and Communication in Bhopal. Most recently, he was Dean at the School of Modern Media, UPES, Dehradun, and has held editorial leadership roles including as a Senior Consulting Editor at Doordarshan News.
Prof. Suresh brings with him a deep involvement in academic policy and research. He is a member of the Academic Council of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), the Society of the Satyajit Ray Film & Television Institute, and the Research Committee of the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). He also serves on advisory councils at Delhi University, the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, and Assam University.
