Sunil Mehta to exit as IndusInd Bank Chairman; Arijit Basu appointed successor

IndusInd Bank has announced a leadership change at the board level. The current Chairman, Sunil Mehta, will step down after completing his term on January 30, 2026. From that date, he will no longer serve as Part-time Chairman and Director of the bank.
At a board meeting held on January 23, 2026, the bank approved the appointment of Arijit Basu as the new Part-time Chairman. He will join the board as an Additional Director in the role of Non-Executive Independent Director. His term as Chairman will begin on January 31, 2026, and will continue for three years until January 30, 2029.
Arijit Basu has many years of experience in the financial services industry. Before this appointment, he was the Chairman of HDB Financial Services, a subsidiary of HDFC Bank. Earlier in his career, he served as Managing Director and CEO of SBI Life Insurance and retired as a Managing Director and Board Member of the State Bank of India.
Apart from his upcoming role at IndusInd Bank, Basu currently works as an Independent Director on the boards of Prudential plc, Peerless Hospitex and Hospital Research Centre, and CleanMax Enviro Energy Solutions. He is also a Senior Advisor to Ares Management Corporation and a member of the advisory board of Razorpay.
