Noel Tata is reportedly set to relinquish his role as chairman of Trent Ltd, bringing to a close an association spanning almost three decades with the Tata Group's retail arm.
According to media reports, addressing shareholders at Trent's 47th Annual General Meeting on June 23, Tata indicated that this would be his final AGM in the chairmanship role. The 69-year-old business leader is due to turn 70 later this year.
His journey with the company began in 1998 when he joined the board after Trent was established under the leadership of his mother, Simone Tata, following the sale of Lakme. A year later, in June 1999, he was appointed the company's inaugural managing director, overseeing its transformation into one of India's leading retail businesses.
