Toyota Motor Corporation has announced a major leadership change, naming Kenta Kon, currently an Operating Officer, as its new President and Chief Executive Officer.

The company’s present President and Board Member, Koji Sato, will move into the role of Vice Chairman and take on a newly created position of Chief Industry Officer (CIO).

Under this revised leadership setup, Sato will concentrate on wider industry matters related to Toyota and the mobility sector, while Kon will be responsible for managing Toyota’s day-to-day operations and internal business as President and CEO.

Toyota said the updated executive structure will come into effect from April 1, 2026.

In addition, Sato, who was appointed Vice Chair of KEIDANREN (Japan Business Federation) in May 2025, is expected to play an active role in shaping policy discussions focused on monozukuri, or manufacturing excellence, and in encouraging stronger collaboration across industries to improve Japan’s global industrial strength.
