Sweta Singh, Senior Executive Editor at Aaj Tak, turned 48 today. Over the past two decades, she has established herself as one of the familiar names in Indian television news, known for her extensive coverage of politics, sports and national events.

Born in Patna, Bihar, on 21 August 1977, Singh studied Mass Communication at Patna Women’s College under Patna University. While still a student, she began her career in journalism by writing for the Patna editions of The Times of India and Hindustan Times. Her transition to television took place in 1998, when she joined Zee News and later worked with Sahara News.

In 2002, she became part of Aaj Tak, where she has remained since. Over the years, Singh has anchored several of the channel’s key programmes, including Dastak, Shwetpatra, Seedhi Baat and Adbhut Avishwasniya Akalpaniya. Her work has not been limited to political and current affairs programming, her sports show Sourav ka Sixer won the Best Sports Programme Award from the Sports Journalism Federation of India in 2005.

She has received multiple awards during her career, such as the NT Award for Best Anchor in 2012 and 2015, the ENBA Best Producer in 2013, the ENBA Best Business Show for Shwetpatra Budget in 2014, and the ENBA Best Anchor in 2017. Singh has also appeared in Hindi films like Chak De! India, Chakravyuh and Jhund, where she played the role of a news presenter. In 2015, she anchored the series History of Patliputra during the Bihar Legislative Assembly elections, which connected historical context with contemporary politics.

Currently, Singh holds the position of Senior Executive Editor - Special Programming at Aaj Tak, where she continues to lead special coverage for the channel. Her reporting has included coverage of general elections, international summits such as the G7 and G20, as well as interviews with a wide range of public figures including Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar and the Prime Minister of India.

Away from her professional life, Singh is married to IT professional Sanket Kotkar, and the couple has a daughter. She has largely kept her personal life private.

As she turns 48, Sweta Singh’s career highlights the trajectory of a journalist who began in print, moved into television at a time of rapid change in Indian media, and went on to become one of the leading faces of a national news channel.
