The government has completed its stakeholder consultations on the Draft Broadcasting Services (Regulation) Bill, 2023, Minister of State for Information & Broadcasting Dr. L. Murugan informed the Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The draft Bill was first released for public comments on November 10, 2023, with the deadline initially set for December 9, 2023, and later extended to January 15, 2024. Following extensive feedback from media and entertainment industry bodies, the consultation period was further extended to October 15, 2024.

Dr. Murugan said all suggestions received have now been examined, adding that the government “believes in wide and extensive consultations.” The update came in response to an unstarred question raised by MP Saket Gokhale.
