The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in an order dated 6 March, has instructed the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) to temporarily suspend the reporting of Television Rating Points (TRPs) for news channels for four weeks, or until further notice.

e4m has learnt that the suspension has now been extended by a further four weeks. Sources that indicated earlier that the four-week suspension could be prolonged if concerns over panic-driven or sensational content persist.

The move follows concerns over alleged sensationalised and speculative coverage by certain news outlets amid the US–Iran conflict, which the ministry said could contribute to public panic.
