Balachandran Ratnavel, who comes with over three decades of experience, has been given the responsibility of taking care of the Tamil business across platforms for JioStar. His appointment is part of the leadership reorganisation that followed the formation of a joint venture between Reliance Industries Limited, Viacom18 Media, and The Walt Disney Company.
He was the Business Head for The Walt Disney Company since September 2021.
Ratnavel has handled sales, marketing and content for various leading organisations. He also has helped in the generation of roles across organisations over the years.
Previously, he headed the fiction content for VIJAY TV and adorned the role of deputy business head for over 17 years during March 2004 and November 2021.
Ratnavel began his career with eight years of experience in handling consumer durable sales and marketing for SINGER in the south.
He has also worked with Mindshare and Lowe Roche in the past where he handled the research and marketing portfolios.
The joint venture, in which Reliance owns a 56% majority ownership, combines the media assets of JioCinema, Star India, and Viacom18 to create a media behemoth with a valuation of about Rs 70,352 crore (US$8.5 billion). Supported by a Rs 11,500 crore (US$1.4 billion) investment by Reliance, the new company would run 100 TV channels, generate more than 30,000 hours of programming a year, and connect with more than 50 million digital subscribers.
