JioStar's Vice Chairperson Uday Shankar in an interview to Bloomberg has said that the joint venture of Reliance and Disney Star will focus on taking the platform's streaming products to the "lowest echelons of the Indian society".
Uday Shankar, who is also the Co-Founder of Bodhi Tree Systems, was quoted as saying in the interview: “I don’t believe in creating solutions solely for the top tier of Indian society. The true value of India lies within its 1.4 billion people.”
According to Shankar, JioStar's offerings will not be limited to a premium subscription model.
“I think media companies in India and globally have been very lazy in the innovation of the monetisation model,” Shankar noted in the interview soon after the launch of JioStar, the $8.5 billion joint venture of Disney and Reliance Industries.
He has also assured that due to an aggressive growth agenda of the new entity most of the employees in both companies will be absorbed.
