Sony Pictures gets media rights of Olympic Games 2020 & Winter Youth Olympics
Sony Pictures Networks India will be covering events across India and the sub-continent on broadcast and digital platforms
Sony Pictures Networks India has bagged the media rights for Olympic Games 2020 and Winter Youth Olympic Games Lausanne 2020, as per media reports.
Sony Pictures will be covering the events across India and the sub-continent on its broadcast and digital platforms. Highlights and replays of key events will also be broadcast on the Olympic channel and International Olympic Committee digital platforms.
SonyLIV, the network’s digital platform, will also be broadcasting the events. Star India earlier held the media rights.
The International Olympic Committee and SPN have also collaborated in forming a permanent Olympic Channel home as part of SonyLIV.
The coverage will include shows on the Olympic athletes and games.
IOC President Thomas Bach issued a statement, saying: “As a dynamic sports and media market, India and the subcontinent is an important strategic region for Olympic broadcasting.”

SPN Chief Executive NP Singh was quoted in media reports as saying, “The Olympic Games is the largest and most prestigious international sports competition in the world with over 200 countries participating…The addition of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 broadcast and digital rights complements our portfolio of International sports events and properties.”
