Raj TV has been rewarding the top students from the secondary and higher secondary divisions across the districts of Tamil Nadu for the last five years through its event property, Raj TV Mudhalvan Awards. This year, Parle G has joined the channel in rewarding top scoring candidates through the Parle G Raj TV Mudhalvan Awards, scheduled to be held in Chennai on July 16, 2005.

Through the event, the top two students would be invited from the state’s 40 districts along with their parents for the award show (stay spanning three days). Each topper will receive gift vouchers worth Rs 30,000 from a host of sponsors. Besides this, they would also get the opportunity to visit the Governor, the Coast Guard and the Mayajaal complex, adding to their excitement. Parle G has also organised a factory visit for the toppers.

The intent behind organising the event, according to Shankar, Vice-President, Marketing and Sales, Raj TV, was, “Going by our slogan of people’s channel, we are committed to doing something for the upliftment of the state, and definitely the student community. We are proud of the fact that when other channels are gunning for ratings, we’re clearly doing something for a social cause.”

As for Parle G, they have been identifying children who not only excel in academics but are clearly all rounders for the last three years in the states of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu. Parle G has been rewarding 10 primary and secondary division students each, in these two states with two-year scholarships of Rs 5,000. These scholarships are distributed around November each year.

“The Raj TV Mudhalvan Awards were seen as yet another opportunity for Parle G to strengthen the brand promise of ‘G for Genius’,” as described by Pravin Kulkarni, Marketing Head, Parle G.

The promos for this event began in March, when the students were just beginning to write their exams. These promos primarily wished all the students luck, while the current promos profile the toppers and congratulate them on their achievement.

The Awards show will go on air in three half-hour slots on July 30, August 6 and August 13, 2005 on Raj TV at 12.30 pm.
