Media Ace Jury Meet: Objective parameters trump "preconceived notions"

A grand jury of 13 marketers led by Harit Nagpal, MD and CEO, Tata Sky, held a day-long deliberation to choose the most deserving agencies and agency heads

The jury meet for the fourth edition of exchange4media’s Media Ace awards was held in Mumbai on Wednesday. A grand jury of 13 marketers led by Harit Nagpal, MD and CEO, Tata Sky, held a day-long deliberation to choose the most deserving agencies and agency heads who have been heralding change in the industry while delivering exceptional results for their clients.

The jury decided to choose the winners based on a simple voting process, awarding the top honour to the entry that won the most votes. While in most categories there was a clear winner who trumped all others by a significant margin, in some categories the jury was spoilt for choice and had to declare a tie and honour two best entries.

In choosing the winners for the Agency of the Year, Digital Agency of the Year, Network of the Year, Network Head of the Year, Agency Head of the Year, and Digital Agency Head of the Year awards, the jury strictly went by data and objective parameters. The jury based their votes on the data on businesses won and lost during the judging period and the quality of those wins and loses. “In the judging process we relied a lot on data, events, and activities which were more objective in nature than use our preconceived notions on the entries,” said Nagpal on the jury process.

The jury used data gathered from the agency and from the Research Company Evaluating the Media Agency Industry (RECMA) to judge the entries. The jury made sure that past wins or the overall perception about an agency or an agency head did not influence the votes in favour of or against a particular entry. Nagpal and other jury members looked for innovation in processes and chose to award change-makers and thought leaders.

The grand jury which deliberated along with Nagpal included: Amit Tiwari, Vice President, Marketing, Havell’s, Jishnu Sen, Chief Marketing Officer, Big Bazaar, Kashyap Vadapalli, Chief Marketing Officer, Pepperfry, Manasi Narasimhan, Vice-President, Marketing and Communications, South Asia, MasterCard, Mayank Shah, Category Head, Parle Products, Nishant Kashikar, Country Manager, Tourism Australia, Rajan Bhalla, Chief Business Officer & Group Chief Marketing Officer, HT Media, Sachin Dingankar, Head Marketing, Zydus Wellness, Sagar Boke, Head of Marketing - Consumer Products Business and Business Head - Spices, Tata Chemicals, Shabnam Panjwani, Executive Vice President & Head Marketing & Communications, Edelweiss Group, Sujith Sudhakaran, Sr. Director, Brand Marketing, and Vikas Khanchandani, Chief Executive Officer, Republic TV.

The Media Ace awards will be announced on October 16.
