Kumar Mangalam Birla, Aditya Birla group chairman, has appointed Sameer Nair, the former group chief executive of Balaji Telefilms, to restore Applause Entertainment, which was closed down in 2009 when profits took a downturn.

Nair is a media veteran, who was instrumental in launching Alt Balaji, the online content provider for Balaji Telefilms. He became the CEO of Star TV in 2006 and also helped launch popular quiz show, Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Media reports point towards Birla investing up to Rs. 300 crore in Applause Entertainment in its first year of operations. The investment will be used to launch multiple shows spanning drama, romance, crime and thriller genres. For more updates, be socially connected with us on
