HDFC Bank names Anup Bagchi MD and CEO; tenure begins October 27

- HDFC Bank has appointed Anup Bagchi as the new Managing Director and CEO, effective October 27, 2026, pending shareholder approval.
- Bagchi will succeed Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose term ends on October 26, 2026.
- The Reserve Bank of India has approved Bagchi's appointment and remuneration under the Banking Regulation Act.
- Currently the Managing Director and CEO of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, Bagchi has over 30 years of experience in banking and finance, with a background in ICICI Group leadership roles.
HDFC Bank has named Anup Bagchi as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer following approval from the Reserve Bank of India. His three-year tenure will begin on October 27, 2026, and end on October 26, 2029.
Bagchi will succeed Sashidhar Jagdishan, whose term concludes at the close of business on October 26, 2026.
The bank’s board has approved Bagchi’s appointment, subject to shareholder approval, and appointed him as an Additional Director effective October 2. The RBI has also cleared his remuneration under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Bagchi currently heads ICICI Prudential Life Insurance as Managing Director and CEO, a position he has held since June 2023. His career spans more than three decades across banking, capital markets, wealth management and insurance.
Associated with the ICICI Group since 1992, he served as Executive Director of ICICI Bank between 2017 and 2023 and previously led ICICI Securities as MD and CEO.
Bagchi holds an engineering degree from IIT Kanpur and a management degree from IIM Bangalore.
