Sudhir Sitapati resigned as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Godrej Consumer Products Limited (GCPL) on August 11. The Board of Directors of GCPL announced the appointment of Aasif Malbari as MD and CEO of GCPL, effective immediately.

In a letter to Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson of GCPL, Sudhir Sitapati has tendered his resignation, with effect from August 11, 2026. He also said he would support his successor during the transition.

In his letter, Sitapati thanked the Board, the Godrej family and the GCPL team for their trust and support during his tenure. “Leading GCPL has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my career,” Sitapati said in the letter.

He highlighted the company's performance during his tenure. According to Sitapati, GCPL's total shareholder return was around 10% on a monthly average from May 7, 2021, when his appointment was announced, through August 9, compared with around 8% for the NIFTY FMCG index.

Sitapati also pointed to the company's recent growth. GCPL reported 19% revenue growth in Q1 FY27, with underlying volume growth of 9%, which he described as multi-quarter highs.

“I feel that the task I had set for myself here is done and this is the right time to move on,” Sitapati said.

Nisaba Godrej, Executive Chairperson of GCPL, said, "I want to thank Sudhir for the bold thinking he has brought to GCPL over the last five years, and we wish him success in what comes next.”

Sitapati was appointed as GCPL's MD and CEO in 2021 after spending more than two decades at Hindustan Unilever. Before joining GCPL, Sitapati spent more than two decades at Unilever, handling leadership roles across India, Europe, Southeast Asia, and Africa. His last role was as Executive Director – Foods and Refreshments at Hindustan Unilever.
