Fernando Fernandez, the newly appointed CEO of Unilever, has said in an interaction with Barcleys that India is the second-biggest market for the FMCG giant and accounts for 12 per cent of Unilever's global sales.

"Very successful FMCG companies have anchor markets. Our two anchor markets are US and India. If EU has been historically neglected, growth has started to accelerate there with unprecedented focus on innovation. China and Indonesia will now improve sequentially,' the CEO was quoted as saying.

Media reports said Fernando Fernandez has also said that the economic environment in India will get better in the second half of this year. He further said that he was "very bullish about the long-term prospects of India regarding the changes in consumer preferences".

On his appointment as CEO, Fernando Fernandez had said Unilever's focus will be on building a future-fit portfolio with an attractive growth footprint and delivering unmatched functional and perceivable superiority across our top 30 power brands.
