Private satellite television industry in India, which commenced with the launch of Zee TV on this day in 1992, marked 33 years today.

“The journey of ‘Z’ has been parallel with the industry, commencing with one private satellite TV channel to encompassing diverse entertainment platforms that offer engaging experiences to consumers at every touch-point and create positive moments for innumerable hearts across the globe, on and off the screen,” the company said in a press release issued on the occasion.

“Over the last three decades, private satellite television and ‘Z’ have mirrored the evolution of the Media & Entertainment (M&E) industry, enabling it to generate Rs. 2.5 trillion annually and provide a livelihood to ~2.8 million people today. From one channel to over 908 private satellite channels, 70+ OTT platforms, close to 40,000 artists, music directors, lyricists and over 3400 feature films produced annually, the M&E sector has grown by leaps and bounds,” it added
