One in four online users visited Yahoo! Cricket during ICC CWC

For Yahoo! Cricket, the 44 day ICC World Cup which ended recently was a huge event seeing 9.3 million unique visitors between February 2011 and March 2011. The total time spent on the website witnessed an increase of 309 per cent on a Year on Year basis, and the Page Views also grew by 238 per cent. According to Yahoo!, 72 per cent of the audience who visited the website was in the age group 15 - 34 years. Also according to the comScore data, the female audience saw an increase by 221 per cent.

Users visited the official ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 website to check live scores and updates in huge numbers, and the portal also offered other content like games and media to keep people engaged with the site. Online users could follow the latest updates through detailed match analysis and tanked up on entertainment during match breaks by viewing a rich bank of exclusive photographs and video content. Another innovation was the embedded video replays in the scorecard which enhanced the user experience.

Yahoo! was also able to bring in users through contests like ‘Predictopus’ which allowed users to make predictions about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and provided an opportunity to compete against predictions of millions of cricket fans world wide for prizes ranging from Hyundai i10 to Apple Mac laptops to Sony PS3 gaming consoles.
