TVF expanding content slate in 2019, to try its hand at Bollywood
The digital content creators are now experimenting with genres and formats. From black & white originals to full length feature film, 2019 will be a year of experiments for TVF
TVF is expanding its content slate in 2019 to include more genres and contemporary narratives. In the digital content space for almost a decade now, The Viral Fever (TVF) is now prepping for its first mainstream Bollywood venture. With a whole new set of content line-up, TVF has a year full of new projects. The content creators are experimenting with new platforms, talents and formats to make their offerings out of the box.
Talking about the move, Sameer Saxena, Chief Content Officer and head at TVF, says, “Mainstream cinema and digital content have been working in tandem with each other for a while now, with actors and directors experimenting with the medium. While mainstream cinema makers have already made content for digital space, we are the first one from digital space to get into mainstream cinema. This year we would announce our first Bollywood film.”
The film will have actors from both mainstream cinema and popular faces from the digital space and will be made the TVF style, says Saxena. While the announcement of the film will be made this year, the release is scheduled for 2020.
Talking of exploring a whole new set of content, Saxena says they would announce 20 new originals this year. These originals would be a mixed bag of new shows and new seasons for old shows.
“Moving on from only comedy or romance, we are exploring different genres like thrillers, horror and hardcore drama,” says Saxena.
Coming to originals, TVF launched the next season of one of its most loved series, Tripling. Presented by Drivezy as their partner for the journey, in the upcoming season, the show will follow the three siblings –Chandan, Chanchal and Chitvan-- as they embark on another engaging road-trip. Season 2 of Tripling will be rolled out on April 5, 2019 and will stream on TVFPlay and SonyLIV.
TVF saw commercial and critical success with the first season of Tripling. The show is also among the Top 250 shows of all time, according to IMDB. Tripling is directed by Saxena and written by Akarsh Khurana and Sumeet Vyas. Vyas also stars as one of the leads on the show. Alongside Vyas, the starcast includes Maanvi Gagroo, Amol Parashar and Kunal Roy Kapoor.
In the list of new originals, there is another show that is ready to go live. The first ever black & white show on the digital medium, TVF’s Kota Factory will be premiering on April 16 on TVF Play and Youtube.
TVF has partnered with learning platform Unacademy to launch Kota Factory. Kota Factory revolves around the lives of IIT aspirants based in Kota, the coaching center industry and the different stages of a student’s life. The show stars Mayur More, Jitendra Kumar, and Ahsaas Channa.
Already working with platforms like SonyLiv and Netflix, TVF will announce more partnerships with both home grown and global OTT platforms. They would also continue to co-work with brands for their shows in 2019 endorsing the concept of branded content.
“Today brands use various marketing tactics to connect with consumers, branded content being one of them. At TVF, we strongly believe that branded content should be organic and seamless, and the focus should be on making viewers internalise the values the brand is trying to present through the content,” adds Saxena.
