Access to the digital news platform The Wire has been blocked across India, following an order reportedly issued under provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Internet Service Providers (ISPs) have confirmed that the site is currently inaccessible to users within the country.
In a public statement issued on May 9, The Wire noted that it had been informed by service providers that the action was taken “as per the order of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.” The publication expressed its intent to explore available legal avenues and said it is taking the necessary steps to address the situation.
The Wire’s team reiterated its commitment to continue reporting and said it would remain focused on delivering “truthful and accurate news” to its readers. The statement also acknowledged the support it has received from its audience over the past decade.
The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has not yet issued a public comment on the matter.
