AI search engine Perplexity has surged to the top of Apple’s App Store in India, overtaking OpenAI’s ChatGPT, following a major partnership with telecom giant Airtel.
The jump in downloads came shortly after Airtel announced it would offer its users free access to Perplexity Pro, a premium subscription normally priced at Rs 17,000 a year.
Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity AI, shared on LinkedIn: “Perplexity is partnering with airtel on consumer and enterprise AI. Our goal is to bring the benefits of cutting edge AI in the hands of millions of people to help them with day-to-day information and tasks. I grew up using an Airtel sim and it feels great to partner together to democratize access to AI in India, a country whose future is bright in the age of AI.”
The deal gives users access to advanced AI tools and features, making it particularly appealing to students, professionals, among others.
