Meta India chief Arun Srinivas and several Facebook and Instagram accounts are facing police complaints over alleged objectionable content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during recent protests.
The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have initiated cases against Srinivas and various social media handles for sharing manipulated and offensive videos and images of Modi.
Complaints were filed by two individuals who reported encountering digitally altered posts on Instagram that depicted the Prime Minister in a derogatory manner, accompanied by abusive comments.
This incident follows recent criticism of Meta by the government after a video from the Prime Minister's official account was temporarily blocked on Facebook.

Meta India chief Arun Srinivas, along with several Facebook and Instagram accounts, has been named in police complaints over alleged objectionable content targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the recent Cockroach Janta Party protests, according to media reports.

The Hyderabad Cybercrime Police have reportedly initiated cases against Srinivas and multiple social media handles accused of sharing allegedly manipulated and offensive videos and images of the Prime Minister across Meta-owned platforms.

The action follows complaints filed by two individuals who claimed they encountered several digitally altered posts on Instagram that depicted Modi in a derogatory, obscene and misleading manner.

According to the complaints, the posts were accompanied by comments containing abusive language, ridicule and inappropriate remarks aimed at the Prime Minister and others featured in the altered content. The complainants alleged that the material appeared to have been AI-generated or digitally modified and was being circulated widely to increase engagement.

The development comes days after Meta faced criticism from the government after a video uploaded through the Prime Minister’s official account was temporarily blocked on Facebook.
