French cosmetics giant L’Oréal has confirmed its interest in acquiring a stake in Italian fashion house Giorgio Armani, in line with the late designer’s wishes, even as it finalises a $4.6 billion acquisition of Kering’s beauty division, media networks have reported.
“The acquisition of Kering’s beauty activities changes nothing in terms of our intention to be part of Armani,” L’Oréal CEO Nicolas Hieronimus has been quoted as saying in an interview.
The comments come shortly after L’Oréal and Kering, the French luxury group behind Gucci, announced an agreement for L’Oréal to acquire Kering Beauté, which includes Creed perfumes.
L’Oréal’s interest in Armani aligns with the late Giorgio Armani’s will, which called for a 15% sale of the privately held company.
Hieronimus said he envisions L’Oréal taking an initial 15% stake, either independently or in partnership with another investor. “We could make this (initial) investment in Armani alone, or with a partner,” he said.
