Ad Club Madras to host Maddy Awards on March 30
Integrated Brand-Comm’s R Sridhar, Cartwheel’s R Desiraju, Draftfcb Ulka’s KS Chax, and Leo Burnett’s KV Sridhar will judge the entries this year
Chennai is all set to host the fifth edition of Advertising Club Madras’ Maddy Awards on March 30, 2013. The Maddy Awards, earlier called the Tamizh Awards, were first instituted in 2008 to recognise and celebrate communication targeted at the Tamizh audiences.
Speaking on the rationale behind the change in the name, Karthic Moorthy, President, Advertising Club Madras said, “We decided to broad base the awards, as Tamizh was restricting a lot of participation from agencies and categories. Maddy basically is derived from Madras Advertising Club and also signifies ‘MAD’, denoting the mad ad world and we have also picked up from the popular Abbys and Emvies.”
P Subramaniam, Vice-President, Advertising Club Madras added here, “I have been associated with the Tamizh Awards for a very long time. What we observed was that the name itself was so language specific, and maybe because of that we did not find much participation. Also, not many of the works originate from Tamil language. So we thought of re-branding it into Maddy Awards.”
A four-member jury panel, comprising Ramanujam Sridhar, Founder & CEO, Integrated Brand-Comm; Ramakrishna Desiraju, CEO, Cartwheel Creative Consultancy; KS Chax, National Creative Director, Draftfcb Ulka; and KV Sridhar, National Creative Director, Leo Burnett will judge the entries this year.
“All the four members are reknowned in the industry and have proven themselves. I am sure this will provide a national canvas, and moreover we need such people from the industry to judge such a big award show,” Moorthy said.
Daily Thanthi has been roped in as title sponsor for the fifth year in a row. The Maddy Awards is powered by Hello FM. The other sponsors on board include Ananda Vikatan, Indian Terrain, Zuari Furniture, Sathiyam TV, Thanthi TV, Ecube, UGP and Skore Condoms.
More than 500 executives from the advertising industry are expected to attend the awards function, which will be held at Hilton, Chennai. The Madras Advertising Club is expecting around 700 entries across 25 categories this year.
For the record, the Madras Advertising Club has 1,000 life and ordinary members. These members are senior executives from leading advertisers, media and advertising agencies, including print, television, OOH and PR firms.
